Skin Care
One square inch of skin contains 65 hairs and 100 sebaceous glands. Dogs and cats have much finer and more sensitive skin than humans. The skin pH is also different. Skin is the largest eliminative organ in the body to release waste materials.
Toxins are eliminated through the skin, and on the reverse, materials are absorbed into the systematic circulation through the hair follicles. Around 70% of the circulating lymph is under the skin at any one time. It is good and bad. Good because the skin can be nourished from the outside and bad because harmful substances can be absorbed or clog the elimination pathways. One of the major reasons why pets have an increasing number of skin problems is that when they eat a processed diet they “dump” the accumulated toxins from the system onto the skin. For example, what happens to sulphur dioxide?
A natural, raw, non-processed diet to keep the intestines happy will reflect a lustrous skin.
That is the reason why natural skin care and parasite control is better for our animals on the long term. If we see the term “natural” we define it as “formed by nature” or “not artificial”. Caution! We have to be wary of manufacturers claiming many products natural and herbal. They may only contain 2-5% herbal oils/extracts and the rest of the product is made up of harmful synthetic carriers, surfactants, emulsifiers and toxic preservatives.
